Long-term natural history of enterochromaffin-like cell (ECL) hyperplasia

#4039

Introduction: Enterochromaffin-like cell (ECL) hyperplasia in the context of autoimmune atrophic gastritis, over a period of time, can progress to gastric neuroendocrine tumors (g-NETs) type 1.

Aim(s): The aim of this study was to evaluate the natural course of ECL hyperplasia and to identify probable risk factors of progression to g-NETs type 1.

Materials and methods: We collected retrospectively the data of patients with ECL hyperplasia from our center. After the initial diagnosis, they were followed-up with biochemical and endoscopic evaluation annually. We analyzed the demographic, histological and biochemical data of the patients.
