Long-term outcomes of surgical valve replacement in patients with severe carcinoid heart disease
#3759
Introduction: Carcinoid Heart Disease (CHD) is a complex complication of carcinoid syndrome (CS), with Surgical Valve Replacement (SVR) being its established treatment in selected patients.
Aim(s): To assess long-term outcomes of SVR in patients with severe CHD and identify patients' and NET-related factors that could affect overall survival (OS).
Materials and methods: Patients with severe CHD who underwent SVR were retrospectively reviewed. Patient (age, comorbidities, symptom severity, pre-op bone marrow and renal function) and NET-related factors (tumor grade, biomarker levels, hepatic and overall tumor burden, pre-op NET treatments) were assessed. The relationship between these characteristics and OS was analysed using the Kaplan-Meier method alongside univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards analysis.
