Management of asymptomatic, sporadic, small non-functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours: Active surveillance or surgery? A retrospective cohort study in the SEER database

#4318

Introduction: Non-functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (NF-PanNETs) exhibit a wide heterogeneity of aggressiveness and optimal management of asymptomatic, sporadic, small PanNETs remains controversial.

Aim(s): We aim to identify the characteristics of small NF-PanNETs and assess the reasonableness of the “wait and see” strategy using patient information extracted from the publicly available Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

Materials and methods: This study collected information of NF-PanNET patients with tumour size measuring 20mm or less from 2004 to 2019. Data including demographic information, clinical characteristics and survival trends were obtained from the SEER database. Statistical analyses were performed with STATA/SE 15.1, SPSS 25.0 and GraphPad Prism 8.
