MEN1 associated pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours: Re-evaluating the 2cm cut-off for surgical resection

#4632

Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs) are the leading cause of death in patients (pts) with MEN1. Screening is recommended to diagnose early and prevent metastases. The optimal cut-off of when to intervene in a PanNET is still an area of debate.

Aim(s): The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics of PanNETs in pts with MEN1 who had surgical resection in a single expert centre.

Materials and methods: A retrospective study was performed to explore the prospective maintained local NET database to identify pts with PanNETs and MEN1. Those who had not had surgical resection were excluded. Data were abstracted from histopathology reports. Malignant features were defined as local invasion, perineural (PN) or lymphovascular invasion (LV), lymph node (N+) or distant metastases (M+).
