Metastatic Midgut Carcinoid Tumors: 20-years Experience in a Single Center

#523

Introduction: The prognosis of metastatic midgut carcinoids has improved during the last decade, due to the increasing number of therapeutic options.

Aim(s): To evaluate clinical outcome in metastatic midgut carcinoid tumors treated in our Unit in the last 20 years.

Materials and methods: Fifteen patients (9M/6F, averaging 56.4 years) with metastatic (liver or peritoneal) midgut carcinoids were observed in our Department from 1992 to 2011. Twelve patients presented with carcinoid syndrome, two with subocclusive symptoms and one was an incidental finding. Ten patients had hepatic metastases at diagnosis (group A), three patients peritoneal metastases (group B) and two patients hepatic and peritoneal involvement (group C). Hepatic metastases were bilobar in 9 /12 cases.
