Neuroendocrine Tumours in Tailgut Cysts: A Report of 3 Cases and Review of Literature

#2224

Introduction: Retrorectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare low grade tumors and their presence in tailgut cyst is rarer.

Aim(s): To report 3 cases of presacral NETs in tailgut cysts with a brief literature review.

Materials and methods: Case 1: 55-year old lady with progressive constipation had a posterior rectal bulge on colonoscopy. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) showed a presacral solid-cystic lesion, positive on DOTA-PET which was resected using a modified Kraske’s approach. Histopathology (HPE) revealed grade 1 (G1) NET. Patient is disease free 1 year post-surgery. Case 2: 37-year old lady with perianal pain and fever was found to have retroperitoneal pelvic abscess, drained via laparotomy, and the tissue showed a G2 NET. MRI and DOTA-PET showed a retrorectal solid-cystic DOTA positive tumour, which was resected using modified Kraske’s approach. HPE confirmed G2 NET. Patient is on PRRT for metastasis 18 months after surgery. Case 3: 53-year old gentleman with constipation and significant weight loss had a posterior rectal bulge on examination. A trans-rectal biopsy revealed G1 NET. DOTA-PET showed a DOTA positive presacral solid-cystic tumour resected using modified Kraske’s approach. Patient is disease free 9 months after surgery.
