Patient initiated follow-up for surgically resected neuroendocrine tumor patients using a digital system – My Medical Record

#3788

Introduction: Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU) is well established in this regional cancer centre, it allows patients to contact a cancer specialist team based on symptoms and individual circumstances. Patients are empowered to manage follow-up remotely, undertaking cancer surveillance tests and accessing results through the digital system MyMedicalRecord (MyMR).

Aim(s): Utilise this proven technology to improve patient experience and assist in reducing the increasing burden on healthcare system.

Materials and methods: Surveillance schedules with recall protocols were approved for completely excised grade 1 pancreatic, small intestinal, appendiceal and goblet cell neuroendocrine tumors. Patients identified in multidisciplinary team meeting, seen by consultant and referred to NET PIFU service. NET Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) assesses the patient to ensure post operative complications have settled and discusses PIFU. Macmillan Holistic Needs assessment is completed, highlighting gaps in health and well-being. NET Cancer Support Worker enrols patients onto MyMR, for patients without access to digital technology a paper process is used to ensure equitable access. To assess impact and improve provision of this service a patient satisfaction questionnaire is in progress.
