Prevalence and characteristics of incidental NET of the Meckel’s diverticula: Retrospective cohort study at a tertiary centre

#4639

Introduction: Meckel’s diverticulum is a rare finding in adults but can harbour malignancies such as leiomyosarcoma or neuroendocrine tumours (NET). The clinical presentation and tumour characteristics, including grading, have shown high variability in recent studies for NET.

Aim(s): To assess the prevalence, clinical course, and characteristics of patients with incidental NET in Meckel's diverticula (MD).

Materials and methods: Retrospective study of patients who underwent abdominal surgery between 2004 to 2024 at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and had an ileal resection. Patient characteristics and tumour diagnoses were assessed by reviewing records from the in-house medical data system. Tumour staging was performed according to the 2019 WHO classification.
