Prior Surgical Resection and Ga-68-DOTANOC PET/CT Imaging-Based Parameters: Do These Impact Outcomes in Grade II Gastroentero-Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (GEP-NETs)

Introduction: Grade 2 GEP-NETs have inherent tumor heterogeneity seen with positive expression of somatostatin (SSTR) and glucose (GLUT) receptors. Prior surgical resection and imaging parameters on Ga-68 DOTANOC PET/C are well-established variable impacting prognosis in well-differentiated grade 1 NETs. Since the degree of differentiation is variable in Grade 2 NETs, these parameters have not been studied.

Aim(s): To evaluate prognostic role of prior surgical resection and Ga 68 DOTANOC PETCT parameters in patients with grade II GEP-NETs.

Materials and methods: We included 85 patients with WHO grade II GEP- NET who underwent Ga-68 DOTANOC PETCT. In 46/85 patients, surgical resection of primary was performed. Patients were stratified into 2 groups based on SUVmax of target lesion, liver involvement on DOTANOC PET and surgical resection of primary. Progression free survival was calculated from the date of DOTANOC PETCT done to last date of clinical/ radiological progression or death due to disease.
