Significance of Biochemical Testing in Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors
#2114
Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are rare tumors that are frequently diagnosed late in the course of the disease. Several biomarkers have been proposed in the literature for diagnosis in patients with these tumors.
Aim(s): To identify biochemical markers usually raised at presentation of patients later on diagnosed with pancreatic neuro endocrine tumors.
Materials and methods: The study included 50 patients diagnosed of pancreatic neuro endocrine tumor (PNETs)treated between December 2012 and December 2015 at Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore and INMOL Hospital Lahore.Pre treatment biochemical tests of patients were analysed to calculate the the incidence of different biochemical markers.Several biomarkers are available for patients with neuroendocrine tumors .Most commonly used tumor markers that facilitate the diagnosis and follow-up of these patients include chromogranin A (CgA), pancreatic polypeptide, and the specific hormone over-secreted in functional PNETs.
