Survival of 10,418 lung neuroendocrine tumours after surgical resection: Who needs follow-up and for how long?

#4439

Introduction: Surgical resection is the primary treatment for lung neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). The optimal follow-up period is debated in these patients.

Aim(s): To identify factors affecting survival following surgery for lung NET and determine the appropriate follow-up duration.

Materials and methods: 3307 and 7118 patients with lung NETS with surgical resection were extracted from NCRAS and SEER respectively. Kaplan–Meier (KM) was used to predict OS and Cox regression analyses identified factors influencing survival. Cases were matched with their respective UK and US life tables by age, sex and year of surgery to compare observed with expected survival (reflecting survival without disease).
