Synchronous appendiceal neuroendocrine carcinoma and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma: a case report

#117

Introduction: Appendiceal tumors with histological features of both carcinoids and adenocarcinomas are very rare. Carcinomas of the appendix are usually mucinous adenocarcinomas with a tendency to produce peritoneal pseudomyxoma and without metastatic spread until late in the disease course. Carcinoid tumors of the appendix are a common incidental finding.

Aim(s): We present a case of a 31-year-old woman with endometriosis who underwent laparoscopy for infertility and laparoscopic appendectomy after pelvic MRI showed fluid in the Douglas recessus and periappendiceal adhesions with mucinous collection.

Materials and methods: Histopathological and immunohistochemical studies were done on obtained specimens. Pre-and postoperative serum chromogranin-A, CA125, and CA19-9 were measured.
