The additive value of F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose PET imaging in grade 1 gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs)

#3753

Introduction: Grade 1 gastroenteropancreatic NETs (GEP-NETs) exhibit better prognosis compared to Grade 2-3 tumors. High uptake in 68Ga-DOTATOC PET imaging is commonly seen in well-differentiated tumors whereas uptake in F-18 FDG PET imaging is associated with aggressive behaviour.

Aim(s): The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of F-18 FDG-PET in patients with grade 1 GEP-NETs.

Materials and methods: We collected the data of 18 patients (12 males; mean age 55.5 years, range 36-80 years) with GEP-NETs that underwent prospectively both 68Ga-DOTATOC and F-18 FDG PET imaging within a week and analysed the nuclear imaging findings and their relationship with the histopathological characteristics of the tumors.
