Trends in neuroendocrine-related searches on Google – How famous cases impact on interest of general population

Introduction: General population interest in neuroendocrine tumors (NET) is influenced by mass-media news and awareness campaigns by advocacy and medical groups. Cases of NET in famous people greatly impact conversations about this disease.

Aim(s): In the present work, we review trends in “neuroendocrine” and related terms on Google.

Materials and methods: Google searches about “neuroendocrine” (English) and “neuroendocrino” (Spanish/Italian) in the last 5 years were analysed using the Google Trends webpage. Google Trends report results in an aggregated way. It provides information regarding the impact of a word in a territory from 100% (maximal interest over time), 50% (half of the interest) to 0% (not data).
