Understanding neuroendocrine cancer: A palliative care perspective in rural India
#4314
Introduction: Introduction: Neuroendocrine cancer (NEC) refers to rare tumours arising from cells that possess both neural and endocrine functions, affecting organs such as the pancreas, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract. In rural India, limited access to specialised oncology care results in delayed diagnoses and insufficient support for NEC patients, making holistic palliative care essential for these communities.
Aim(s): The study aims to identify the physical and psychosocial needs of NEC patients in rural India and evaluate the impact of palliative care on improving their quality of life.
Materials and methods: Using a qualitative approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with NEC patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers across rural regions. Additionally, observational data were gathered from palliative care interventions adapted for rural oncology patients to assess care efficacy.
