Think NENs –
Educational Programme for Primary Care Physicians
Primary care physicians (PCPs) are often the first point of contact for patients presenting symptoms that could indicate neuroendocrine cancers (NENs). However, due to their rarity and nonspecific symptoms, NENs are frequently underdiagnosed.
To address this challenge, the International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance (INCA) is launching the #ThinkNENs campaign. This educational initiative, supported by ENETS, aims to enhance the recognition and management of NENs by PCPs, improving early diagnosis and ultimately leading to better patient outcomes in neuroendocrine cancer.
Why early recognition matters
Early recognition of NENs is critical as it allows for timely referrals to specialists and more effective treatment options, ultimately improving patient outcomes. The #ThinkNENs programme equips PCPs with the knowledge to recognise symptoms and act swiftly, ensuring patients receive the care they need as early as possible.
The programme
The #ThinkNENs Global Educational Programme is a free online resource aimed at helping PCPs improve their ability to diagnose and manage NENs effectively. Available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, the programme consists of:
- Main Module: Three videos providing an overview of NEN diagnosis and management, including Q&A sessions with international NEN experts.
- Duration: 1 hour
- Outcome: 1 UEMS-EACCME® credit upon completion.
- Supplementary Training: Thirteen additional videos covering common NEN types, treatment options, and genetic considerations.
Key learning outcomes
- Improved diagnostic awareness for recognising NENs in primary care settings.
- Understanding of NEN treatments and their management in primary care.
- Knowledge of appropriate referral pathways for patients requiring specialist NEN care.
