PD Dr. med. Anna Nießen is a surgical consultant at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). She performed her surgical training at the University Hospital Heidelberg, where she already focused her research on neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), culminating in her venia legendi (Priv.-Doz.) on the topic of „Management of neuroendocrine tumours – how conservative may surgery be?“. Since 2023, she has been working as a surgical consultant with main focus on pancreatic surgery at UKE, Department of General, Visceral and Thoracic Surgery. Here, she became Head of the ENETS Center of Excellence and Head of the Surgical Study Center. She is involved with the national guideline update on NETs and is an editor for Langenbeck’s Archives of Surgery. She has co-authored many peer-reviewed papers and coordinates multiple research projects within her own research group.
