A population-based analysis of the epidemiology of neuroendocrine tumors in Newfoundland and Labrador

#3641

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) have been regarded as rare neoplasms; however, global incidence has been steadily increasing. Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), a relatively genetically isolated entity with a prevalent founder effect, is of particular interest when considering these malignancies.

Aim(s): This study seeks to assess the epidemiology of well-differentiated NETs in NL from 1992 – 2018.

Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted with a provincially maintained database. Adult patients with a histological diagnosis of NET from 1992 to 2018 in NL were included. The main outcomes included overall and age-standardized incidence, tumor demographics and distribution, along with proportion of metastatic disease at diagnosis.
