A retrospective comparison of preoperative characteristics and surgical outcomes in small intestine neuroendocrine neoplasms (SiNENs) and small intestine adenocarcinoma

#4300

Introduction: SiNENs are complex tumours with unique behaviour. Despite 30 years of progress, limited data and diagnostic challenges hinder understanding, complicating assessment of their biology and outcomes.

Aim(s): This paper reviews symptoms, diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis of small intestine malignancies, analysing NEN characteristics and correlating clinical, lab, and histological factors with outcomes.

Materials and methods: The study included 42 patients with SiNENs and 16 with AdenoCa treated at St. Josef Hospital, Ruhr University, from 2010 to 2021. Data on each patient's anthropometrics, clinical history, labs, imaging, and histology were collected, with laboratory evaluation conducted before therapeutic intervention when possible.
