Comparative characteristics of TTF-1 and SOX2 expression in neuroendocrine tumors of the lungs and thymus
#3435
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors of the lungs (NETLs) and thymus (NETTs) are a heterogeneous group of tumors. SOX2 is a key regulator of pluripotency induction, which is also involved in the mechanisms of carcinogenesis.
Aim(s): Study expression of factors TTF-1 and SOX2 in NETLs and NETTs.
Materials and methods: Using immunohistochemistry (IHC), we investigated the expression of TTF-1 and SOX in 256 NETLs: 52 typical (TCs) and 65 atypical carcinoids divided in two groups with Ki67≤10% (n=40, group 1) and 10-30% (n=25, group 2); 113 small cell carcinomas (SCC) similarly divided in groups with Ki67 ≤55% (n=32, group 1) and>55% (n=81, group 2); 26 large cell carcinomas (LCC), and 15 NETT (TK, ATC, SCC-1, 9 and 5 cases).
