Development and launch of first Australian accredited GP NET education course

#3340

Introduction: In 2018-19, NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia (NECA) encouraged NET patients to nominate GP’s to fill in a 21-question survey. Questions ranged from diagnosis, initial symptoms, interactions with specialists, educational gaps & preferences. With only 5% of GPs suspecting a NET, these results provided the foundations for much needed education for GPs.

Aim(s): To create & launch the first accredited comprehensive suite of education modules for healthcare professionals in Australia, gaining 40 CPD points.

Materials and methods: The steering committee included Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, GP, Endocrinology, Psychiatry, Dietitian, consumer, Nurse and accredited medical writers. The course is interactive and includes: Module 1–Suspecting NET in general practice, including symptoms, diagnostics; Module 2–Management of NETs including surgery, SSAs, Chemotherapy, PRRT; Module 3- Specific NETs - including MEN 1, PPGL, SDHB, Merkel Cell; Module 4–Living with NETS including diet, Psychological Impact, Financial Toxicity.
