Educational learning investigational observational study (ELIOS): A 10-year Italian network to standardize procedures and obtain multicentric clinical research studies

#3373

Introduction: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) are heterogeneous tumors with peculiar biology and rising incidence. Multidisciplinary approach in skilled centers is required to manage these patients. Accurate and complete data are indispensable for high quality epidemiological and clinical research.

Aim(s): Aim of this project was to create a network among 10 NEN centers from different Italian regions, allowing data collection and sharing about NEN patients, to standardize procedures and obtain multicentric clinical research studies.

Materials and methods: The anonymous data on diagnostics (primary, extent, grading, location), therapies (type, duration, association), and outcomes of NEN patients are collected in an evolving, shared electronic database. Data collection began in 2011 among 5 institutions of Southern Italy and now 10 institutions from Southern and Central Italy are participating.
