Establishment of a New Human Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumour Cell Line

Introduction: The development of new therapeutic strategies for patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours is impaired by the paucity of suitable pre-clinical models. Although the two available tumour cell lines BON and QGP have a neuroendocrine phenotype, the proliferation rate is too high for a well differentiated neuroendocrine tumour.

Aim(s): Therefore the aim was to establish new neuroendocrine cell lines from patient-derived tumour tissue.

Materials and methods: We here report the successful establishment and inital characterisation of a new neuroendocrine cell line (called NT-3) derived from a lymphnode metastasis from a patient with a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour.
