Evaluation of Faecal Elastase 1 in Symptomatic Patients with Neuroendocrine Tumours

Introduction: There is limited data on exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in patients on somatostatin analogues(SSA) which affects quality of life in NETs.

Aim(s): We explored the value of faecal elastase(FE) as a marker of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in patients with NETs.

Materials and methods: 39 patients (27 midgut,5 pancreatic,7 other) consecutively referred to a gastroenterology NET clinic completed standardised questionnaires regarding symptoms and quality of life (QoL) as part of clinical care. FE was prospectively evaluated to investigate steatorrhoea.
