Financial Toxicity in Patients with Neuroendocrine Tumor Disease. A so far Underestimated "Side Effect" of Cancer in Germany?

#2090

Introduction: Cancer is not only associated with physical and psychological, but also financial burden. In contrast to other countries, the socio-economic impact of cancer for patients in Germany, with a third party paid health care system, is poorly understood.

Aim(s): This study aims to provide data on patients' financial losses due to a NET-diagnosis and related psychosocial outcomes.

Materials and methods: This prospective quantitative study recruited n=122 patients with NET from 11/2016 to 3/2017 at the National Center for Tumor Diseases, University Hospital of Heidelberg. A survey on patients’ income, cancer-related out-of-pocket costs, psychosocial stress (Distress Thermometer) and quality of life (EORTC-LQ) was complemented by data from patients’ medical records.
