Finding the frequency of bronchial carcinoid tumors associated with neuroendocrine syndrome

#3715

Introduction: Pulmonary carcinoid tumors are part of bronchopulmonary neuroendocrine neoplasms (bpNETs) along with large and small cell pulmonary carcinoma. They are capable of producing a variety of peptides and biological active hormones such as serotonin, histamine, bombesin thus leading to several endocrine syndromes.

Aim(s): Our study aims to find out the frequency of bronchial carcinoid tumors associated with neuroendocrine syndrome as well as associated symptoms with this type of pathology.

Materials and methods: A retrospective study was done where patients went for laboratory tests consisting of specific hormones urinary and plasmatic dosage, imaging investigations (thoracic computed tomography-CT, brain magnetic resonance imaging-MRI, chest X-ray), in order to have a positive pulmonary carcinoid.
