Follow-up analysis of group nutritional education in patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEDNEN Course): A novel approach with proven acceptability

#4510

Introduction: Structured group education demonstrates improved outcomes in peri-operative health optimisation and diabetes mellitus. We devised and delivered a novel in person nutrition/dietary education programme for patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) at the Sheffield ENETS Centre of Excellence.

Aim(s): To assess acceptability and effectiveness of group-based education for patients with NENs with 8-week follow-up.

Materials and methods: 15 patients (10 with small bowel NENs, 5 with non-functioning pancreatic NENs) participated in a 4-hour structured education programme. The programme comprised 3 sessions: an overview of NENs, a discussion on medical treatments and a hands-on session focused on NEN-specific dietary and nutritional guidance with 3 specialist NEN dietitians. All participants completed bespoke pre- and post-course questionnaires. A follow-up assessment was conducted 2 months post programme.
