Hedgehog pathway implications in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors

#3469

Introduction: Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway has a known role in the development of various tumors and we have selective inhibitors. However, its implications in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are still to be unrevealed.

Aim(s): To know if the activation of Hh pathway is related to gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) NETs development, to provide prognostic markers and to find new therapeutic targets.

Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort of GEP NET patients diagnosed between 2014 and 2018 was enrolled. The molecular study of classical and non-canonical Hh pathway proteins and genes was performed by IHC and quantitative RT-PCR in FFPE samples. Clinical data were analysed in comparison with molecular findings and Kaplan-Meier method and log rank test were applied for survival analysis.
