Impact of Early Surgery on Prognosis in Advanced Gastro-entero-pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours (GEP-NET)

Introduction: In gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEP-NET) the role of surgery remains to be determined.

Aim(s): This retrospective analysis of GEP-NET patients using the new Austrian GEP-NET registry (ANETS) examines the impact of surgery versus conservative therapy as first line treatment in regard to progression free survival (PFS).

Materials and methods: Data of 39 patients with advanced GEP-NET were assessed in the ANETS registry between January 2014 and December 2015. Patients were analysed in two groups according to first line treatment. 13 patients were treated with surgery or with ablative procedures as TACE (transarterial chemoembolization), while 26 patients were treated with drug therapy including Somatostatin analogues and/or targeted therapy.
