Is late diagnosis and carcinoid heart disease (CaHD) associated with deprivation index? – An audit of practice and assessment of deprivation index in Sheffield ENETS Centre of Excellence
#4520
Introduction: Delays to diagnosis in neuroendocrine neoplasms is a world-wide problem. Challenges and inequities recognised include low awareness and access to expert centres. Indices of multiple deprivation (IMD) assess the least to the most deprived areas in the UK, 1 being the most deprived of the 10 deciles.
Aim(s): Guidelines recommend screening for carcinoid heart disease (CaHD) in patients with carcinoid syndrome (CS) using high 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA), NT-proBNP and Echocardiogram. We reviewed our centres performance but also noted IMD and mode of presentation.
Materials and methods: The Sheffield NET database was interrogated to review patients with CaHD and CS. Data was collected on 56 patients. Biomarkers, assessment of social deprivation index, mode of presentation and cardiac assessment was recorded.
