Metachronous Primary Cancers in Neuroendocrine Tumor Patients

#2024

Introduction: Historically there has been an association between neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) and second primary cancers (Stronge et al 2014). However, this has not been well characterised.

Aim(s): To determine the incidence of multiple primaries in people with NETs and investigate association between first and subsequent primaries.

Materials and methods: Tumours per person and the relative risk of second primary site was calculated for 12,844 people diagnosed with a NET in England between 2013 and 2015, and captured by the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) Public Health England (PHE) population-based cancer registry.
