Neuroendocrine and Ductal Breast Cancer Coexistence: An Unusual Case Report
#553
Introduction: Breast Primary Neuroendocrine carcinoma (BNEC) is a rare entity. Literature surveillance reveal few cases with no well-established therapeutic options. We herein report a case.
Aim(s): To present an unusual BNEC.
Materials and methods: We report a case of BNET in a 63-year-old female. The ultrasonography revealed irregular hypoechoic masses and mammography showed asymmetric breast tissue in the upper quadrant of the right breast. An excisional biopsy suggested carcinoma, and breast-conserving surgery with lymph node dissection was done. Histopathologic examination of the resected sample showed a solid to nested proliferation of neoplasmatic ductal cells of 1.5 cm and coexistence of a 2-cm lession that showed immunocytochemical positivity for chromogranin A, synaptophysin, CD56, and estrogen receptor. The overall evaluation did not show any metastatic sites. Octreoscan documented positive thoracic and abdominal nodes.
