Nutritional status in patients with neuroendocrine tumors: A single ENETS Centre of Excellence experience
#3560
Introduction: Studies show that 14–68% of patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETS) are at risk of or are malnourished. Patients’ dependent on NET type, primary or treatment are at risk of Vitamin B12, A, D E, iron deficiencies, pancreatic enzyme insufficiency (PEI) and a high HbA1c.
Aim(s): To determine current nutritional monitoring of this patient group at St Vincent’s University Hospital.
Materials and methods: 25 patients with NETS were referred to the dietitian and reviewed between September 2020-April 2021. Demographics, nutritional status, vitamin levels and HbA1c were collected retrospectively and recorded on an Excel audit tool. Analysis included calculating the number and/or percentage of patients with malnutrition and relevant lab results.
