Risk factors for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NENs): A multicentre case-control study
#3199
Introduction: Pathogenesis and risk factors of sporadic GEP-NENs are not clear and still debated.
Aim(s): The aim of this study is to evaluate the main risk factors for sporadic GEP-NENs in patients followed by three Italian referral centers for NENs.
Materials and methods: We performed a retrospective case-control study including 145 consecutive sporadic GEP-NENs and 210 age-and sex-matched controls, affected by benign thyroid disease. We collected data on demographic aspects, clinical features and potential risk factors. Groups were compared using χ2 test for comparison of proportions for categorical variables, Student’s t -test for normally distributed continuous variables. A multiple hierarchical logistic regression analysis was performed with a stepwise variable selection procedure.
