RNA splicing as a key regulatory player with translational potential in pulmonary neuroendocrine neoplasms (lungNETs)
Introduction:
Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are a diverse group of neoplasms arising from neuroendocrine cells. Within this group, lung neuroendocrine tumours (LungNETs) represent one of the most frequent subtypes of NETs. LungNETs are classified by grade, according to their proliferative index and aggressiveness. Among them, typical carcinoids (G1) and atypical carcinoids (G2) are the lowest grade subtypes. While these tumours are less aggressive, they remain underexplored compared to higher-grade subtypes, highlighting the need for molecular studies to improve clinical approaches. In this context, previous studies have shown that abnormalities in the splicing machinery are frequent in tumour pathologies and also occur in LungNETs.

Exploring the interplay between RNA methylation and splicing dysregulation in neuroendocrine tumours
Introduction:
Post-transcriptional modifications play crucial roles in regulating gene expression and cellular function. While recent findings indicate that alternative splicing dysregulation plays a key role in tumorigenic properties of neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), the role of other RNA processing mechanisms, such as N6-methyladenosine (m6A) — being the most common RNA methylation — remains largely unexplored in NETs.

Specific spliceosomic landscapes reveal a possible link between RNA processing and panNETs behaviour
Introduction:
Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (PanNETs) are characterized by a low number of mutations. Despite genomics, transcriptomics and epigenomics studies have helped to understand the molecular features of PanNETs, there is still a vast unexplored ground for better comprehension of this disease. In this context, we have previously documented that RNA splicing is dysregulated in these tumors, which unveils new avenues to discover potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets. However, clinical and molecular implications of this dysregulation are still very poorly understood.
