#4549 Alpha-Fetoprotein as a valuable biomarker in neuroendocrine tumours
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are a rare group of tumours that pose a significant diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic challenge. This complexity arises from the diversity and heterogeneity of these neoplasms, as well as from the limitations of commonly used biomarkers in clinical practice. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a fetal protein widely used primarily for congenital defects in prenatal diagnostics and in certain malignancies in adults.

#4528 Serum visfatin concentration in metastatic pancreatic and midgut NETs: An exploratory study
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are commonly diagnosed at advanced stages due to their diverse and often asymptomatic clinical presentation. Visfatin, an adipocytokine involved in regulating cellular energy homeostasis, inflammation, and tumorigenesis, has been investigated as a potential biomarker in several neoplasms. However, its role in NETs remains unexplored.

Introduction: Radio-guided surgery (RGS) proved to be promising in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Previous studies showed high sensitivity but low specificity using gamma probes to detect radiation emitted by radio-labelled somatostatin analogues.

Introduction: Despite recent advances, neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) remain a challenging topic due to their diverse characteristics and the lack of suitable biomarkers. The shift to an omics-based approach and the utilization of statistical algorithms present an improvement over the traditional single-analyte strategy, albeit with its own drawbacks.

Introduction: Patients with neuroendocrine tumors have few treatment options after progression to first-line somatostatin analogues.
