Introduction: Patients harbouring pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PNENs) often present as a non-resectable disease due to distant metastases, hence, efficacy of the current medical intervention is limited. Activation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway is a known tumorigenic driver in PNENs. mTOR inhibition by Everolimus (EVE) delays PNEN progression, but the mechanism is not clear. EVE is also used as an immunosuppressant, thus we hypothesized that it may suppress the anti-tumoral immune response.

#2983 Differential TGF-β Signalling in Typical and Atypical Bronchial Carcinoids
Introduction: Typical and atypical bronchial carcinoids (TBC and ABC) are well-differentiated neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN). Metastatic BC having low to moderate mitotic count may still be treated with somatostatin analogues and mTOR inhibitors; however, TBC and ABC have been reported to respond very differently to therapy and an effective treatment algorithm is still lacking. TGF-β is known for its ability to activate mTOR pathway and induce epithelial mesenchymal transition, affecting cell pathophysiological capabilities such as proliferation, migration and tissue invasiveness.

#2695 Different Treatment Options for Patients with Advanced Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors
Introduction: Low sensitivity to chemotherapy leaves open question of optimal approach to drug therapy of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Somatostatin analogues (SSA) (octreotide, lanreotide) and mTOR inhibitors are successfully used in treatment.

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) express somatostatin receptors that are currently utilized for diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. For peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), somatostatin analogs are coupled to radionuclides like 90Y or 177Lu, which after injection are bound and taken up specifically by NETs. One hypothesis potentially explaining the discrepancies between expected result and observed outcome of PRRT might be that somatostatin analogs induce a G1 arrest in NET cells, thereby rendering them radioresistant.
