The psychological impact of COVID-19 pandemic in patients with NETs: Between resilience and vulnerability

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed lifestyles and quality of life (QoL) of the global population. Little is known regarding the psychological impact of COVID-19 in patients with gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) or bronchopulmonary (BP) NETs.

Aim(s): To prospectively evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on i)The levels of stress, depression, anxiety; ii)The relationship with physicians; iii)The QoL of patients with GEP or BP-NETs during a 6 months observation period.

Materials and methods: Psychometric tests including the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), the Patient-Doctor Relationship Questionnaire (PDRQ-9) as well as the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC-QLQ-GI. NET21 were used to assess the mental health status, the patient/physician relationship and the QoL of any stage patients with G1/G2 NET during the interval April-October 2020. The Wilcoxon rank-sum test was used to compare paired evaluations.
