Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy improves progression free and overall survival in patients who progress after resection of gastroenteropancreatic NETs
Introduction:
Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT) improves progression-free-survival (PFS) in advanced midgut neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Whether PRRT specifically improves survival in surgically managed gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) NET with progression is unknown.

Comparison of drug sensitivity profiles of various NEN spheroids
Introduction:
Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are rare cancers that arise from neuroendocrine cells. NENs are classified as well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs). Small bowel and pancreatic NETs (SBNET & PNETs) are generally slow-growing but commonly metastasize to the liver and become aggressive cancers. Little is known about the drug sensitivity profile of these 3 NENs due to the lack of cellular and animal models of these malignancies. Recently, we have developed a protocol to culture NEN cells from patient tumors as patient-derived spheroids (PDS) and showed expression of NEN markers. The rarity and slow growing features of these spheroids have been hindering drug screens with many compounds.

Increased expression of cytochrome P450 3A4 in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor cells promotes drug resistance
Introduction:
Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are slow growing, but often metastasize to the liver. Several systemic treatment options are available for metastatic PNETs but unfortunately fail to improve survival. Hence a better understanding of PNET biology and new therapies are required. In an attempt to identify new drugs for metastatic PNETs, our group performed gene expression analysis of primary PNETs and PNETs that metastasized to lymph nodes and/or liver and identified genes and drug candidates that could potentially help treat metastatic PNETs.
