#4656 Development of a 3D patient-derived extracellular matrix hydrogel model of small intestinal neuroendocrine tumour and mesenteric fibrosis

Introduction: The pathogenesis of mesenteric fibrosis in small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours (SI-NETs) is poorly understood, limiting development of effective treatments and biomarkers. A major barrier to research is the lack of disease models.

#1886 Effect of Treatment with Prolonged-Release Somatostatin Analogues on the Concentration of Serum Fibrosis Markers in Patients with Carcinoid Syndrome.

Introduction: A fibrosis is a major local and/or distant complication of neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) of the small intestine secreting serotonin. Tumour cells produce connective tissue growth factor CTGF and transforming growth factor TGFα and TGFβ which locally stimulate fibrosis and cause distant fibrosis.

#1301 Role of TSC22D1 (TGFβ-Stimulated Clone 22 Domain Family Member 1) in Bronchial Carcinoids

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) include bronchial carcinoids, either typical (TC) or atypical (AC). Tsc22d1 encodes for a member of TSC22 domain family of leucine zipper transcription factors; the protein (TSC22D1) is stimulated by TGFβ. Microarray data analysis obtained comparing a pool of TC tissue specimens with a pool of AC tissue specimens shows TSC22D1 down-regulation in AC samples. These data were confirmed by real time PCR and Western blot in vitro models of TC (NCI-H727 cells) and AC (NCI-H720 cells)
