A review of outcomes of two sets of 100 consecutive cases of cutaneous basal cell carcinomas of the head and neck managed in an oral and maxillofacial unit at a district general hospital

#3091

Introduction: Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are often regarded as the ‘mildest’ form of skin cancer, and are the most common type of skin cancer in the United Kingdom [1]. There are various forms of treatment for BCCs. In an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) unit, the majority of lesions are surgically excised, followed by histopathological examination to determine completeness of excision. This study aimed to analyse the outcome of cases of BCCs excised in our OMFS unit.

Aim(s): This study looked retrospectively at the outcomes of two sets of one hundred consecutive cases of primary BCCs excised in the OMFS unit at a district general hospital, from the period of March - June 2019.This was repeated in January - March 2020. Histology reports were reviewed, and data was collected and analysed.
