Broncho-pulmonary combined large-cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (Co-LCNEC): More than a hybrid neoplasm
#3347
Introduction: The current WHO classification of lung neoplasms defines combined large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (CoLCNECs) as the association of an LCNEC with a recognizable component of adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, small cell carcinoma or, rarely, with atypical carcinoid.
Aim(s): Knowledge of the molecular basis of their pathogenesis is still scarce and unclear, as well as no therapeutic approach has been defined to date.
Materials and methods: 44 CoLCNECs, including 26 with adenocarcinoma (CoADC), 3 with small cell carcinoma (CoSCLC), 4 with atypical carcinoid (CoAC), 7 with squamous cell carcinoma (CoSQC) components and 4 with napsin-A positive LCNEC (NapA+), were analysed for genomic and transcriptomic profiling.
