Introduction: At diagnosis, over 50% of small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours (SI-NETs) have metastasised to the mesentery where they often induce extensive fibrosis. Recent studies highlight the crucial interaction between SI-NET cells and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the pathogenesis of mesenteric fibrosis (MF).

#4642 Establishing a standardised histopathological grading system for mesenteric fibrosis in small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours

Introduction: Mesenteric fibrosis (MF) frequently develops around mesenteric metastasis in small intestinal neuroendocrine tumour (SI-NET) patients. Since MF is not always detected radiologically, histopathological examination is considered the gold standard. However, there is no uniform histopathological scoring system for MF correlated with clinical data.

Introduction: Up to 50% of patients diagnosed with small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours (SI-NETs) are affected by mesenteric fibrosis (MF) which has significant pathological effects and impacts patient mortality.

#4129 Validation of a radiomics model to predict symptoms complications from small intestinal NET mesenteric metastases – Preliminary report

Introduction: The development of mesenteric metastases and associated mesenteric fibrosis in small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NET) can cause significant complications and have implications in patients’ survival. CT is suboptimal for accurate assessment of the degree of fibrosis and prediction of complications. A better model is needed, therefore, in order to select patients who may benefit from a prophylactic surgical approach in the mesentery. Recently the promising role of a radiomics model was shown as a predictive tool for development of complications of mesenteric metastases/fibrosis in 68 patients.
