Introduction: Peptide Radio Receptor Therapy (PRRT) is a standard treatment in patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NET), but treatment responses are limited and novel therapy combinations are needed. Since radiation induced cell death is considered immunogenic, patients might benefit from a combination of PRRT with immunotherapies, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI).

Introduction: Peptide Radio Receptor Therapy (PRRT) represents a standard treatment in patients with well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NET G1/G2). Nevertheless, a lack of response is observed in 1/3 of patients after PRRT, suggesting that combination of PRRT with other therapies might increase its efficacy. The combination of PRRT with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) might be promising, since radiation induced cell death can trigger antigen release and lead to activation of the immune system.

Introduction: High-grade neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) possess inevitable tendencies to metastasise and hold poor prospects of survival. Patients with neuroendocrine tumours who progress after medical management can be treated with peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), on the proviso that there is positive uptake on 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT imaging. Despite this, a proportion of patients who exhibit positive imaging respond poorly to therapy. Management of NECs is currently limited; evidence for treating NECs with PRRT is scarce.
