Introduction: The hypoxic microenvironment is a hallmark of many solid tumours, including neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). Hypoxia plays a crucial role in tumour progression, metastasis, and therapy resistance. However, the specific mechanisms by which hypoxia influences NET behaviour remain poorly understood.

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) often show resistance to chemotherapy and targeted therapies, leading to treatment failure. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this resistance remain poorly understood.

Introduction: NENs are treated with systemic therapies with limited non-curable efficacy due to development of drug resistance (DR). While cannabis and its extracts (cannabinoids, CE) are mostly used for their palliation properties, increasing evidence suggests an anticancer trait via several cellular pathways. Limited data exist on cannabis and the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in NENs and their impact on the development of DR.

Introduction: Patients with unresectable NENs are offered a variety of non-curable therapeutic options, which eventually fail due to drug resistance (DR). Increasing evidence suggest an anticancer trait of cannabinoids, via cellular pathways including mTOR, known to be associated with DR development. Still, limited data exist on the anti-cancer effects of cannabinoids in NENs.

Introduction: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) have been identified as relevant contributors to cancer progression and drug resistance in many tumors. Although neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are often associated with a strong stromal reaction, no study has addressed whether CAF are involved in progression and therapeutic resistance in NET.
