ENETS Abstract Search
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are a diverse group of neoplasms arising from neuroendocrine cells. Within this group, lung neuroendocrine tumours (LungNETs) represent one of the most frequent subtypes of NETs. LungNETs are classified by grade, according to their proliferative index and aggressiveness. Among them, typical carcinoids (G1) and atypical carcinoids (G2) are the lowest grade subtypes. While these tumours are less aggressive, they remain underexplored compared to higher-grade subtypes, highlighting the need for molecular studies to improve clinical approaches. In this context, previous studies have shown that abnormalities in the splicing machinery are frequent in tumour pathologies and also occur in LungNETs.

Introduction: The study of small intestine neuroendocrine neoplasms (siNENs) is challenging due to their rarity and complexity. While transcriptomic subtypes have been identified, the mechanisms behind their progression are still unclear. The process of RNA splicing is often altered in cancer, and our group has described that such dysregulation is also present in various NENs.

Introduction: DNA methylation plays an important role in NET pathogenesis. Distinct methylation profiles can differentiate between tumour subtypes, predict malignancy potential, and provide insights into tumour progression.

Introduction: Most pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs) are non-functioning. Previously, we demonstrated that small, MEN1-only mutated α-like PanNETs can be distinguished from larger ADM (mutated in ATRX, DAXX and MEN1) PanNETs based on epigenetic profiles. ADM PanNETs have shorter disease-free survival and a higher relapse risk. However, their therapeutic responses vary, underscoring group heterogeneity. ADM PanNETs remain insufficiently characterised, with potential subtype-specific progression drivers with implications for treatment choice and clinical outcome.

Introduction: Chromogranin A (CgA) is a widely used serum biomarker for neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), reflecting tumour burden and secretory activity. Despite its clinical utility, the diagnostic sensitivity and prognostic value of CgA remain a subject of debate, especially given its potential for false positives and its variation across different NET subtypes.
