#4338 Spot urine 5-HIAA creatinine ratio is comparable to 24hr urine collection for diagnosis of carcinoid syndrome

Introduction: Carcinoid syndrome (CS) constitutes up to 20% of functional neuroendocrine neoplasms and can lead to carcinoid crisis (CC), a potentially fatal complication during invasive procedures. Urine 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA) is the preferred diagnostic biomarker for CS and prognostic marker for CC. 5HIAA is collected over 24-hours with strict dietary restriction for the 2 days prior as well as the day of the collection. False positive and negative results can occur due to under and over-collection. Patient inconvenience also contributes to the low request rate of this test.

#4017 Serum 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid is equivalent to 24-hour urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid for the diagnosis of carcinoid syndrome

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are characterized by their ability to secrete amines and peptides. Overproduction of serotonin results in the carcinoid syndrome (CS), present in approximately 20% of all NET patients. Measuring the main metabolite of serotonin, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), in 24-hour urine is frequently used for the diagnosis and follow-up of CS patients. However, these measurements are prone to sampling error and may be troublesome for patients. Serum 5-HIAA measurements might be a more reliable and convenient alternative in the diagnosis of CS.

Introduction: Patients with neuroendocrine neoplasia (NEN) experience psychological distress related to secreting tumors. 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) is a metabolite of serotonin, an important secretory product in carcinoid syndrome.

#1816 Multivisceral Transplantation and Vascularised Sentinel Forearm Flap for a Metastatic Small Bowel Neuroendocrine Tumour: Update on Follow-Up

Introduction: We previously reported the first documented case of a novel approach in a patient with extensive mesenteric metastases from a small bowel neuroendocrine tumour (SBNET): this combined multivisceral transplantation (MVT) and a vascularised sentinel forearm flap (VSFF) from the same donor.

#686 Hepatic Arterial Embolization for Gastroenteropancreatic NET Liver Metastases

Introduction: Selective hepatic arterial embolization (HAE) with polyvinyl alcohol particles has been shown to be equivalent to chemoembolization for patients with hepatic gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) neuroendocrine metastases. There remains debate about its clinical effectiveness and which patients benefit from treatment.
