#4647 Crosstalk between cancer-associated fibroblasts and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumour cells in a 3D spheroid model

Introduction: At diagnosis, over 50% of small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours (SI-NETs) have metastasised to the mesentery where they often induce extensive fibrosis. Recent studies highlight the crucial interaction between SI-NET cells and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the pathogenesis of mesenteric fibrosis (MF).

#3471 A novel in vitro spheroid model enables multi-modality assessment of the anti-tumoral immune response in pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms

Introduction: Patients harbouring pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PNENs) often present as a non-resectable disease due to distant metastases, hence, efficacy of the current medical intervention is limited. Activation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway is a known tumorigenic driver in PNENs. mTOR inhibition by Everolimus (EVE) delays PNEN progression, but the mechanism is not clear. EVE is also used as an immunosuppressant, thus we hypothesized that it may suppress the anti-tumoral immune response.

#3151 Immunohistochemical evaluation of vimentin aberrant expression in lung carcinoid tumors

Introduction: The carcinoid tumors of lung represent a rare group of epithelial well-differentiated neuroendocrine neoplasms with common morphological characteristics and highly variable clinical course. Vimentin is a type III intermediate filament that is involved in cell migration and adhesion. Vimentin also drives epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) and metastasis in solid tumors. However, no information exists for vimentin expression levels and the characterization of EMT phenotypes of lung carcinoid tumors.
