Transcription Factor Signature in Pancreatic and Duodenal Neuroendocrine Neoplasms
#171
Introduction: We recently identified ISL1 as a marker for pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (P-NENs). ISL1 as well as PDX1, CDX2 and NGN3 are transcription factors (TF) involved in pancreato-duodenal development.
Aim(s): We studied these four main TFs in hormonally characterized P- and duodenal (D)-NENs to better understand their expression, site and hormonal specificity.
Materials and methods: A series of 49 P-NENs (35) and D-NENs (14) were immunolabeled with antibodies to insulin, glucagon, somatostatin, pancreatic polypeptide (PP), gastrin, serotonin, calcitonin, ISL1, PDX1, NGN3, CDX2 and Ki-67. The pattern of TFs was examined and correlated to the tumor hormonal profile, functionality, location, grade, size and metastatic status.
