Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) comprise a heterogeneous group of endocrine tumors. Previous studies showed that mutations of p53 are extremely rare; whereas genetic changes of MEN1 frequently occur and are correlated with poor prognosis in PNET. Still, their roles in tumorigenesis remain elusive.

Introduction: Colorectal poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) are rare, but extremely aggressive. The mechanisms of their carcinogenesis and aggressiveness are still largely unknown. Recently Nobuyoshi Takizawa showed that the molecular features of colorectal NECs are similar to those of adenocarcinoma and not to those of NETs and they were more evident in small cell NECs than in large cell NECs. This is supported by combined cases with conventional adenoma/adenocarcinoma and NECs. Stelow et al showed that DNA mismatch repair proteins were intact in 14/15 colorectal small cell NECs. Two cases of LCNECs arising from SSL have been reported so far in the literature.

#1465 Assocation Between miRNAs and HDACs in Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors
Introduction: Epigenetic factors are essentially involved in carcinogenesis, tumor promotion and chemo resistance with their major key players of miRNAs and histone deacetylases (HDACs). As shown by own theoretical databank analysis, the crosstalk between miRNAs and HDACs are relevant in different human chronic diseases and cancerogenic pathways.

#1320 Are eIFs Ingredients for Neuroendocrine Tumorigenesis?
Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) develop in almost any organ, therefore they are a very heterogeneous group of tumors. One of the major activities in every cell is the translation of mRNA to the corresponding protein, which plays an important role in cancer development. Crucial for this translation process are eukaryotic initiation factors (eIFs), which are themselves regulated by the mammalian target of Rapamycin (mTOR)-pathway. Mutation or deregulated expression of eIFs influences cell growth and proliferation, contributing to carcinogenesis. The incidence of NETs has increased fivefold over the last three decades.
