#4650 Whole exome sequencing in pulmonary neuroendocrine neoplasms: Findings from a pilot investigation

Introduction: The molecular landscape of lung neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) is still poorly characterised. Lung NETs main prognostic factors currently include stage, histotype, grade, location, and demographic parameters, but molecular biomarkers are still not available, limiting the possibility for personalised therapeutic strategies.

Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (pNENs) are classified as carcinomas (pNECs), and tumors (pNETs). Their handling is challenging and understanding their carcinogenesis process including genetic-epigenetic relations is crucial for their clinical management.

#3435 Comparative characteristics of TTF-1 and SOX2 expression in neuroendocrine tumors of the lungs and thymus

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors of the lungs (NETLs) and thymus (NETTs) are a heterogeneous group of tumors. SOX2 is a key regulator of pluripotency induction, which is also involved in the mechanisms of carcinogenesis.

#3381 Time to reclassify gastric carcinomas of diffuse type to neuroendocrine carcinomas

Introduction: The difference between adeno- and neuroendocrine carcinomas has been disputed for decades. Occurrence of neuroendocrine tumor cells in adenocarcinomas has been recognized, but the distinction between them has been made upon a certain number of tumor cells with a neuroendocrine marker. The number of positive cells depends upon the sensitivity of the method. Carcinogenesis generally results in loss and not gain of function. New gene expression of markers specific for a cell type seldom occurs.

#3309 Comprehensive genetic analysis of tumor suppressor genes Men1, PTEN, Rb1 and p53 in NETs in mice

Introduction: Tumor suppressor genes (TSGs) RB1, TP53 and PTEN are three of the most commonly mutated TSGs in human cancers. Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) gene is one of the most frequently mutated TSGs in human neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Cooperative effects of genetic alterations of TSGs are frequently observed during carcinogenesis.
